Coin | Silver Ounce 2019 Three Kreuzer of Leopold I - Restrike |
---|
|
Apart from regular circulating coinage, Slovakia has mints that produce bullion which is not legal tender and is targeted at investors and not at coin collectors - such as this one.
This silver round (called a medallion by the mint) is a "re-strike" of a three kreuzer coin issued by Leopold I for Hungary.
Leopold I was Holy Roman Emperor as well as king of Hungary, Bohemia and Croatia and Arch-Duke of Austria (as Leopold VI) - there being five other rulers named Leopold in Austria before. Typically for the time, his different realms issued their own differing coinage, with the same portrait of the ruler on the obverse but with different legends as relevant to the country, and with different reverses.
The particular coin re-created in this issue is a small silver coin which was issued between 1657 and 1705 and was struck by a number of different mints, one of which was the Pressburg Mint located in what is now Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The modern Pressburg Mint takes its name from that old Austrian mint. The coin is listed in the Krause catalogue as KM# 194 under Hungary.
This medallion is minted using high-quality, LBMA-certified 1oz 999+/1000 silver blanks. |

On the left, a shield with the initial C, and on the right a shield with the monogram HS.
