Apart from regular circulating coinage, Slovakia has mints that produce bullion which is not legal tender and is targeted at investors and not at coin collectors - such as this one.
This is the first issue in the Terra (Earth) series issued by the Pressburg Mint based in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. This first design is a "silver round" (bullion which is not legal tender) - called a "medallion" by the mint.The series then continued as coins which have legal tender status in Tokelau.
The mint says about the design:
"We have not inherited Earth from our ancestors, we have borrowed it from our children." Earth - in Latin "Terra" - is our only home. It provides every resource needed for life, but our lifestyle has left a mark on it. There's still time for change and with this coin, we want to address the importance of improving our relationship with the planet Earth. Fulfilling our needs is as equally important as making Earth a place for future generations to thrive in."
The medallion is minted using LBMA-certified 1oz 999/1000 silver blanks, undergoing a thorough cleaning process before striking, ensuring proof-quality specimens. |

The reverse design shows a large map of the Earth; the rim is like the rim of a compass.
Around above, the name of the planet in different languages: EARTH, ZEM and GAIA; the Latin name TERRA is in larger letters below, overlaid on the map.
Around below, the inscription SERVA ME, SERVABO TE. (protect me and I will protect you); below that, the logo of the Pressburg Mint. |
