Apart from regular circulating coinage, Slovakia has mints that produce bullion which is not legal tender and is targeted at investors and not at coin collectors - such as this one.
This is the first issue in the Vivat Humanitas (long live humanity) series issued by the Pressburg Mint based in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. This first design is a "silver round" (bullion which is not legal tender) - called a "medallion" by the mint.The series then continued as coins which have legal tender status in Tokelau.
The mint says about the design:
"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." - Mahatma Ghandi
With the Vivat Humanitas coin, we want to embrace this important message. Humanity keeps on advancing forward despite all conflicts and hatred. In order to make the lives of future generations better, we must put our differences aside and embrace the fact that we are all one kind, we are human.
The medallion is minted using LBMA-certified 1oz 999/1000 silver blanks, undergoing a thorough cleaning process before striking, ensuring proof-quality specimens. |

The obverse design has a diamond-shaped area at centre, in which is reproduced the part of The Creation of Adam painting by Italian artist Michelangelo in which the hands of Adam and God almost, but not quite, meet.
Above that, the PRESSBURG MINT logo. On three lines below, ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER 999, below which an X-shaped hallmark with the letters PMB inside.
Around above and also around below, so that it can be readable any way the coin is turned, the inscription VIVAT HUMANITAS. |
