Tokelau, known previously as the Tokelau Islands, is a dependent territory of New Zealand in the southern Pacific Ocean. It uses the New Zealand Dollar as circulation currency, but has been issuing a variety of non-circulating coins since 1978. These are denominated in dollars or "Tala" (the local word for dollar) and cents.

The country has also authorised some foreign mints to issue non circulating coins under its jurisdiction, such as this 1 oz (one ounce) silver coin.

This silver coin featuring a photo of Diana - Princess of Wales is a tribute to the "Queen of Hearts". Minted from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality, the coloured reverse features a portrait of the smiling Lady Di.

Princess Diana was born Diana Frances Spencer on 1st July 1961, and married Prince Charles, heir to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II, on July 29, 1981. Diana assumed numerous duties under the sign of the crown and showed extremely high social commitment. It was important to her to use her position wisely and to make the world a better place with the help of charity projects. Because of her pronounced compassion and warm-heartedness, Diana was given the nickname "Queen of Hearts". Even when her marriage to Prince Charles initially crumbled and they eventually divorced, public interest in Diana did not wane. On 31st August 1997, she died in a tragic car accident in Paris.
