![]() This portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was created by British artist Jody Clark for a series of commemorative coins issued by The Commonwealth Mint for the island of Alderney. The series is a re-issue of the classic 1847 Gothic Crown by William Wyon, which had his Gothic portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse. Jody Clark is best known as the author of the fifth definitive effigy Queen Elizabeth II, which has been used in the United Kingdom since 2015, and in other countries - most notably Australia - in an uncouped version since 2019. For the Alderney series, he created a young portrait of the Queen, in a style reminiscent of that of the Wyon's portrait of Queen Victoria. On the portrait, Queen Elizabeth II is depicted young, crowned with the same crown that Victoria has on her portrait, and wears a richly decorated gown. The inscription around the effigy is in ornate Gothic script. |
