Народна република България (НРБ), transliteration: Narodna republika Balgariya (NRB) meaning "People's Republic of Bulgaria" in Bulgarian was the official name of the Bulgarian socialist republic that existed from 1946 to 1990. The republic replaced the (Third) Kingdom of Bulgaria after a referendum in September 1946, after which the young Tsar Simeon II was required to leave the country. On 15 November 1990, the 7th Grand National Assembly voted to change the country's name to the Republic of Bulgaria. | |
