The Australian five ounces silver piece (abbreviated as 5 oz and designated with Ag for "silver") is a bullion and commemorative coin format. Uniquely, in Australia there are two mints authorised to strike legal tender: the Royal Australian Mint (which also makes the country's circulating coinage) and the Perth Mint which only makes collector and bullion coins, as well as other bullion products.
Both mints endeavour to create coins with attractive designs, and to introduce new designs and themes often, in order to raise the numismatic value of the coins over the value of previous metal used.
The coin is part of the Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle range by the Perth Mint. The 2025 edition is the tenth design by John M. Mercanti, and portrays a representation of a wedge-tailed eagle with outstretched wings ready to take flight. |

The obverse of the coin displays the bust of King Charles III, which depicts him bare-headed (uncrowned) and wearing a suit and tie, facing left.
Below the shoulder truncation in tiny letters, the artist's initials DT (for Dan Thorne).

The reverse design shows a wedge-tailed eagle in perched on a tree branch, wings outstretched, ready to take flight.
The designer's initials JM, for John M. Mercanti, are on the tip of the eagle's wing on the right.
Around above, the inscription AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE. Around below, the date of issue and the precious metal content: 2025 5 oz 9999 SILVER (five troy ounces of 99.99% silver).
