The Australian ten ounces silver piece (abbreviated as 10 oz and designated with Ag for "silver") is a bullion coin format. Uniquely, in Australia there are two mints authorised to strike legal tender: the Royal Australian Mint (which also makes the country's circulating coinage) and the Perth Mint which only makes collector and bullion coins, as well as other bullion products.
Both mints endeavour to create coins with attractive designs, and to introduce new designs and themes often, in order to raise the numismatic value of the coins over the value of previous metal used.
More than 30 years old and as strong as ever, the Australian Kookaburra is an iconic coin series featuring annual designs of one of Australia’s most recognisable birds. The kookaburra can be heard hollering its distinctive laughing call across Australia - from the outback to the backyard.
In 2021, the beady-eyed character appears for the 32nd time on the Australian Kookaburra Silver Bullion Coin Series by the Perth Mint. Portraying the much-loved bird surveying the landscape from a tree branch, the classic artistry includes decorative embellishments comprising gum leaves and seedpods. |
