Coin | Silver Ounce 2020 Still Trapped |

The Cook Islands, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar circulates in parallel with the local Cook Islands Dollar; at the same time, the government also authorises many legal tender coins in the Cook Islands Dollar currency for collector's purposes. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, including one ounce of silver - such as this coin.
The Mint says about this coin: "CIT is proud to introduce the follow-up to our enormously successful Trapped 2019 issue. It is clear that many collectors can relate to the feeling of being someplace they would rather not be! Whether you have been anxiously awaiting this next issue or you are new to the series, we are confident that this year’s issue of “Still Trapped” will evoke the same level of panic and curiosity as our previous release.
We have used our exclusive smartminting© technology to strike an image of two hands trying to break through fabric. The realism of the image is breathtaking and the coin creates a very strong human emotion. Look closely and you can see the incredible detail behind the hands and the fabric that keeps them trapped! Struck from 1 ounce of pure silver in an antique finish". |

Obverse | |
The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.
In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).
Around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the face value: ELIZABETH II COOK ISLANDS 5 DOLLARS.
