Coin | Silver Ounce 2022 Untrapped |

The Cook Islands, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar circulates in parallel with the local Cook Islands Dollar; at the same time, the government also authorises many legal tender coins in the Cook Islands Dollar currency for collector's purposes. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, including one ounce of silver - such as this coin.
This coin is part of the Trapped series started in 2019. The Mint says about it: At long last, after three previous sold out "Trapped" issues, this fourth edition is finally able to become “Untrapped”! At least "someone" of the Trap attack from last release tries to escape. But is it the offender or the transformed victim who is about to jump out of the coin?
The incredible detail of the stretched fabric combined with ultra-realistic sloping relief make for a coin that really causes goose bumps. Struck from 1 ounce of pure silver in an antique finish and limited to only 999 pieces for the world, we fully expect this issue to sell out just like the others did. Will this be the last of the story? Stay tuned to find out if this is the end. |

Obverse | |
The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.
In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).
Around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the face value: ELIZABETH II COOK ISLANDS 5 DOLLARS.

Reverse | |
The reverse design creates the impression of a person's face, trapped under a stretched fabric sheet and screaming; continuing the theme from the previous release, the mouth seems to display a hint of vampire fangs. The fabric sheet is torn, being pushed aside by a hand with long sharp fingernails.
Around above right in the rim, the small inscription TRAPPED; around below left, the date of issue 2022. |
