Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.

This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series dedicated to famous movies in the form of their original posters, and features Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2.

The Mint says about it:
Celebrate the last film in the Harry Potter series, with a 1oz pure silver movie poster coin for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The poster features a colour image of Harry front and centre, supported by his two friends Ron and Hermione as they face the final showdown. Hogwarts Castle is engraved in the background and shines out in silver along with the movie title.

This unique rectangular-shaped coin has the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse to confirm it as legal tender. The coin is placed in an acrylic display block, the magnetised lid snaps off easily for a close-up view. This is placed inside a custom-made box that complements the coin. A Certificate of Authenticity is provided to confirm the silver purity and the coin’s unique number in the mintage.
