Tokelau, known previously as the Tokelau Islands, is a dependent territory of New Zealand in the southern Pacific Ocean. It uses the New Zealand Dollar as circulation currency, but has been issuing a variety of non-circulating coins since 1978, and has also authorised some foreign mints to issue bullion coins under its jurisdiction - such as this one.
This is the third design in the Terra (Earth) series by the Pressburg Mint; this is also the first year when the series was issued in gold.
The mint says about it:
Earth - in Latin, Terra - is our only home. It provides every resource needed for life, but our lifestyle has left a mark on it. This coin addresses importance of protection of environment and improvement of our relationship to the planet Earth.
