Like many other mints, the Royal Mint issues bullion coins in precious metals, having much higher intrinsic value than their face value. The quarter ounce (1/4 oz) gold coins are denominated as Twenty-five Pounds (£25).
The coins are legal tender but are not intended for circulation. They are targeted at bullion investors or collectors who appreciate the special editions as pieces of art. The coins are typically "one-year" types usually issued in parallel with other denominations with the same reverse designs.
This gold quarter ounce denominated as £25 is the fourth and final release in a Royal Mint series celebrating one of the most popular movie franchises of all time - Star Wars, and specifically - the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, the third installment of the saga. This design features film characters Han Solo and Chewbacca.
The mint says:
"It has been almost half a century since the world got its first glimpse of the Star Wars universe with the release of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977. Now, for the first time, the iconic characters of the original Star Wars trilogy will feature on official UK coins as part of a brand-new, four-coin collection dedicated to some of the most legendary partnerships from the series." |

The obverse of the coin displays the first definitive portrait of King Charles III, which shows his bare (uncrowned) head facing left.
Below the neck truncation in tiny letters, the artist's initials MJ (for Martin Jennings).
Around, the monarch's legend followed by the face value and date of issue: CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 25 POUNDS · 2024 ·. Translated from Latin, the legend means: Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.

The reverse of the coin depicts Han Solo and Chewbacca, two characters who play a prominent role in the Star Wars movies. They are seen in front of Han Solo's spaceship, the Millennium Falcon.
Above, a circular decoration with the ship's outline, which is static instead of the latent image featuring on the other denominations in the series.
Below, the STAR WARS logo.
