This legend was used on the coinage of British Commonwealth countries, such as British Honduras, Fiji and New Zealand, between 1948 and the King's death in 1952.
With the independence of India on 15 August 1947, King George VI ceased to be Emperor of India. On coins after this date, the obverse legend was changed from GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR or GEORGE VI KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA to KING GEORGE THE SIXTH.
In contrast to coins issued in his name in the United Kingdom, the legend is in English and not Latin. |
