Fifty Cents 2000 Millennium, Coin from Australia - detailed information

The obverse shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the date: ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2000.

The reverse features an Australian flag with the inscription MILLENNIUM YEAR curved around it to the right, and the denomination and value 50 CENTS in two lines below and to the left.

A small G in a circle in the right field is the signature of the designer, Vladimir Gottwald.

On proof coins, the flag is coloured red, white and blue.
