This coin, commemorating the Prague Uprising of 1945 was issued as part of a four-coin gold proof series by the Czech Mint. It is in the signature "gold ducat" format of the mint, which is slightly heavier than a tenth-ounce.
The Mint says about the coin:
Since the beginning of 1945 a nationwide uprising was being prepared in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, in order to liberate the nation, once and for all, from German domination. Due to other European events, which indicated the approaching end of the Second World War, this rebellion should have helped to prevent the Germans from looting or destroying our industrial potential. The Prague uprising burst out 5th May, 1945. Nearly three thousand victims form part of the list of the fallen, which was completed this year by the Military Historical Institute, 70 years later. |

At the centre of the obverse, the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits. There are no designer's initials below the effigy.
To the left of the portrait and below, the mint mark of the Czech Mint - a crowned monogram of the letters ČM (Česká mincovna).
The rim surrounding the portrait is ringed with graveyard crosses. In the outer rim, the Queen's legend, the face value and date of issue: ELIZABETH II · NIUE ISLAND · FIVE DOLLARS · 2015 ·. |
