Coin | Gold Tenth-Ounce 2017 Lev of Rosenthal |

Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - such as a tenth ounce of gold (abbreviated as 1/10 oz Au, where "Au" comes from the Latin word for gold, Aurum).
This coin is part of the four coin Lords of Rosenthal noble family set by the Czech Mint and is dedicated to Lev of Rosenthal (in Czech: Lev z Rožmitálu).
The Mint says about it: Lev of Rosenthal (1425 - 1482) had considerable property and a nice demeanour. However, only his sister Johanka, the wife of George of Poděbrady, was able to enforce his power. Lev became the leader of a legendary diplomatic expedition in the courts of Western Europe, where he enchanted with his demeanour and knightly skills. Hence he is represented on the reverse side of this coin in full armour with raised eyes. |
