Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - such as one ounce of gold (abbreviated as 1 oz Au, where "Au" comes from the Latin word for gold, Aurum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
This gold coin is part of New Zealand Mint's range marking Disney’s 100th anniversary.
The mint says about it: This beautiful 1oz pure gold coin honours the exciting celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary!
Fully engraved, the coin features the “Disney 100 Years of Wonder” logo, along with the two delightful sweethearts, Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse dancing happily together. Some relief and texture, using sandblasting, have been added to the design which contrasts wonderfully against the polished mirror-finish background.
The obverse has the Public Seal of Niue, confirming the coin as legal tender. The worldwide mintage is very limited with only 100 coins available.
Officially licensed, this special memento is presented in a high-quality case that can be angled for display. Inside is a separate Certificate of Authenticity including the coin’s unique number. A special edition outer box featuring the anniversary logo completes this unique piece of memorabilia. |
