Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series called Mandalorian Classic and dedicated to characters from the Star Wars series. The coin features Grogu, also known as The Child or Baby Yoda.

The obverse simply bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, making it instantly recognisable as a legal tender coin. The coin is placed inside a high-quality coin case and Star Wars themed box. The Certificate of Authenticity is included in the case and shows the coin’s unique number in the mintage.
