Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
This coin is part of the New Zealand Mint's Guards Of The Empire coin series dedicated to characters from the Star Wars films.
The Mint says about it: "This latest coin in the officially licensed Guards of the Empire Silver Coin Collection features the original backbone of the Republic’s new military, the Clone Trooper™.
This 1oz fine silver coin has been coloured and engraved for maximum impact. It shows a Clone Trooper running at speed with his blaster rifle in front of a squad of Clone Troopers.
This unique rectangular collectible is placed inside a magnetised acrylic holder, which keeps the coin safe on display while still allowing easy access. A uniquely numbered Certificate of Authenticity is included in the packaging which is Star Wars branded and completes the overall design." |
