Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. Many of these feature famous movie characters. This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series dedicated to famous movies, and is dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of Monsters, Inc., a Disney and Pixar film. The Mint says about it: The obverse bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to confirm it as a legal tender coin. The charming, themed packaging resembles Boo’s closet door and opens to reveal the monster coin inside!
