Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin is part of the Love is Precious series by the New Zealand Mint.
The Mint says about it: "The striking Love is Precious - Flamingos 1oz Silver Coin features two wonderful, coloured Flamingos, representing lovers, surrounded by a myriad of delightful flowers. Between them is a red heart-shaped cubic zirconia, set into the coin. Around the edge, the inscription Love is Precious is finely engraved into an ornate border. The pure silver coin is packaged in a pretty pink box, featuring more delightful Flamingos, which opens to reveal an elegant heart-shaped silver-coloured coin case. The Certificate of Authenticity can be found inside this packaging and features the Friedrich Halm quote: “Two souls with but a single thought; two hearts that beat as one.” A fabulous gift for your true love, engagements, weddings and anniversaries, but with a limited availability of only 3,000 coins." |
