Silver Ten Ounces 2024 Mandalorian - Beskar Bar, Coin from Niue - detailed information

Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of coins under the authority of Niue. Most of these are commemorative and collector issues dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - including the very large ten ounces of silver format (abbreviated as 10 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).

This bullion silver bar continues the New Zealand Mint's Star Wars - Mandalorian theme, and represents a Beskar Bar (or a Beskar Ingot). It is the fourth issue in this format, the first being in 2021.

The mint says about it:
"This officially licensed Star Wars - Mandalorian Antique finish coin was struck from 10 ounces of 99.9% silver and replicates an ingot of Mandalorian iron. The coin features the characteristic wave shape that Beskar ingots are stamped with, and also includes the logo of the Galactic Empire. The obverse features the Niue Coat of Arms as well as the denomination, year of issue, weight, fineness and official copyright.

The legendary Beskar alloy, also known as Mandalorian iron, is highly valued throughout the galaxy for its incredible strength and durability. It was created on Mandalore for use by its soldiers as a strong suit of armor that can deflect lasers and even withstand a lightsaber strike. Beskar is a very versatile material since it can be molded according to the demands of the warrior who wears it. This valuable metal is refined into bars with a wavy surface that is then stamped with the Galactic Imperial Crest for identification in an ingot form. Beskar is so essential and adaptable that it is used as a convenient store of wealth or method of exchange in the form of ingots. Mandalorians have a near-religious attachment to Beskar and think it should only be owned by their people.
