Tokelau, known previously as the Tokelau Islands, is a dependent territory of New Zealand in the southern Pacific Ocean. It uses the New Zealand Dollar as circulation currency, but has been issuing a variety of non-circulating coins since 1978, and has also authorised some foreign mints to issue bullion coins under its jurisdiction - including in the internationally popular silver ounce format.
This is the second issue in the Vivat Humanitas (long live humanity) series issued by the Pressburg Mint based in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. it is the first legal tender coin in the series - the first issue was a "silver round".
The mint says about it:

Coins in the Vivat Humanitas series point out the idea of humanity that keeps on advancing and delivers impressive achievements despite all conflicts and differences. Script and writing systems have evolved in different human civilisations. Communication in written form is one of major milestones in human development which has made humanity unique.
The coin is minted using LBMA-certified 1oz 999/1000 silver blanks, undergoing a thorough cleaning process before striking. |

At the centre of the obverse, the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.
In tiny letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).
Around above, the monarch's name, ELIZABETH II; around below, the name of the country: TOKELAU. Around the portrait and the legend, there is a rim decorated with a geometric pattern.
A wider rim around that is divided into four sectors: in the sector above right, the face value 5 DOLLARS; below left, the metal content 1oz Ag 999 (one troy ounce of 99.9% silver). The other two sectors are divided into thin vertical strips inscribed with old types of writing systems used by ancient languages. |

At the centre of the reverse, in a eight-pointed figure consisting of two squares, a stylised Sun and Eye of Horus (ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health). In four of the points of the star:

- (below) in Egyptian Hieroglyphics - Bâ (soul)
- (on the left) in Maya script - tz'ib' ("writing")
