Gold Two Ounces 2024 James Bond - 1980s, Coin from United Kingdom - detailed information

Like many other mints, the Royal Mint issues bullion coins in precious metals, having much higher intrinsic value than their face value. The two ounce (2 oz) gold coins are denominated as Two Hundred Pounds (£200).

The coins are legal tender but are not intended for circulation. They are targeted at bullion investors or collectors who appreciate the special editions as pieces of art. The coins are typically "one-year" types usually issued in parallel with smaller denominations with the same reverse designs.

This commemorative two-ounce gold coin is part of the third of seven releases marking six decades of James Bond films, and is dedicated to those released in the 1980s.

The mint says about it:

A global sensation known around the world, the iconic secret agent has become as ingrained in British culture as any other character in movie history. Starting with the 1960s, each coin explores a different decade of the 007 films and features an iconic scene from that decade of Bond."

This coin features the memorable Bede BD5J Acrostar plane from the pre-title sequence of Octopussy.

The series was designed by Matthew Dent and Christian Davies, who also designed an earlier James Bond range issued by the Royal Mint between 2020 and 2022 (on coins and non-legal tender bullion).
