Like many other mints, the Royal Mint issues bullion coins in precious metals, having much higher intrinsic value than their face value. The one ounce (1 oz) silver coins are denominated as either two pounds (£2) or five pounds (£5), depending on the occasion.
Initially, these were only of the Britannia type, but in 2015 the Royal Mint started to use the format for coins with other types of reverse designs, celebrating various aspects of British heritage.
The coins are legal tender but are not intended for circulation. They are targeted at bullion investors or collectors who appreciate the special editions as pieces of art.
This bullion one-ounce silver coin is part of the second of seven releases marking six decades of James Bond films, and is dedicated to those released in the 1970s.
The mint says about it:
"For more than 60 years, James Bond has wowed cinema-goers worldwide with his trademark blend of wit, action and espionage. A global sensation known around the world, the iconic secret agent has become as ingrained in British culture as any other character in movie history. Starting with the 1960s, each coin explores a different decade of the 007 films and features an iconic scene from that decade of Bond."
This coin features Wet Nellie - the custom-built submarine created for the 1977 James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me" in the shape of a Lotus Esprit S1 sports car.

The obverse of the coin displays the first definitive portrait of King Charles III, which shows his bare (uncrowned) head facing left.
Below the neck truncation in tiny letters, the artist's initials MJ (for Martin Jennings).
Around, the monarch's legend followed by the face value and date of issue: CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 2 POUNDS ·. Translated from Latin, the legend means: Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.
The obverse has a textured background ("guilloche" geometric pattern). |

The reverse of the coin depicts the famous Lotus Esprit S1 sports car. which also doubles as a submarine in "The Spy Who Loved Me".
Below, the 007 logo of the franchise, with the 7 being in the shape of a pistol.
In microtext in the background, repeated multiple the names of all the James Bond movies released in the 1970s (Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Moonraker). "Hidden" in the mictotext (on the second line below the 007 logo), the designer's initials, CD for Christian Davies and MD for Matthew (Matt) Dent.
The rim features the spiraling rifling of a gun barrel, which is another hallmark of the series.
