Silver Ounce 2023 King Charles III Coronation, Bullion, Coin from United Kingdom - detailed information

The obverse of the coin displays a crowned version of the first definitive portrait of King Charles III, which shows his crowned head facing left. On this portrait, the King wears the Tudor Crown - which was destroyed in the 1640s, but occasionally features on the effigies of British monarchs nevertheless.

Below the neck truncation in tiny letters, the artist's initials MJ (for Martin Jennings).

Around, the monarch's legend followed by the face value and date of issue: CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 2 POUNDS · 2023 ·. Translated from Latin, the legend means: Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.

The obverse has a textured background ("guilloche" geometric pattern). The rim is plain.

At centre, the reverse of the coin displays the Royal Cypher of King Charles III - the letters CR, with the Latin numeral III within the R; "C III R" is abbreviated from Charles III Rex, which means (in Latin) Charles the Third, King.

The cypher is surrounded by a wreath of olive branches, and is crowned with the Tudor Crown.

Interrupted by the crown, around the rim in large letters is the inscription THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III 6 MAY 2023.

The same inscription is repeated four times in micro-print nearer the rim, followed by the precious metal content: 1 OZ FINE SILVER 999 (one troy ounce of 99.9% silver).

The designer's initials JB (for John Bergdahl) are below right, opposite the O in OF.
