Gold Quarter Ounce 2017 Beersheba, Coin from Australia - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1/4oz 9999 GOLD 2017 25 DOLLARS.

The inscription around the rim also incorporates the precious metal content. "1/4 oz 9999 GOLD" means "one quarter of a troy ounce of 99.99% gold".

The coin’s reverse depicts a member of the 4th Light Horse Brigade with his horse. In the lower right field, the design includes a red poppy - the international Remembrance symbol for World War I.

The Perth Mint’s P mint mark is above left. In the left field, the initials of the designer, WR (for Wade Robinson).
