Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin is part of the Love is Precious series by the New Zealand Mint.
The Mint says about it: This beautiful Love is Precious - Swans 1oz Silver Coin features two white Swans, representing lovers on a body of water, surrounded by a myriad of colourful flowers. Between them is a red heart-shaped cubic zirconia, set into the coin. Around the edge, the inscription Love is Precious is finely engraved into an ornate border. Turn to the obverse for the effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll, confirming it as legal tender.
The coin is held in an elegant heart-shaped silver-coloured case lined with blue velvet. It is then placed inside a themed outer box featuring complementary colours and swan motifs. A Certificate of Authenticity is placed inside and features the William Shakespeare quote “Thee will I love, and with thee lead my life.” The coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 3,000 is also provided. |
