Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). "The Fool features on the first release in our exciting new Tarot Cards Coin Collection struck in 1oz pure silver. He starts the journey through the emblematic Tarot cards known as the Major Arcana. Much of the Major Arcana is told as ‘The Story of the Fool’. This 1oz pure silver coin shows a coloured and engraved representation of The Fool on a rectangular coin - to mirror the shape of a Tarot card.

The obverse has a striking engraved border around the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It is legal tender in Niue.

The coin arrives in custom-made book-style packaging which offers the meaning behind the card and the Certificate of Authenticity alongside the coin. There is a worldwide limit of only 2,000 coins. A holographic sticker on the packaging confirms the number for each coin. This is a unique addition to any Tarot or coin collection."
