Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - for example, two ounces of silver (abbreviated as 2 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin with a special shape is the second in the Fierce Nature series and features the Tiger.
The Mint says about it: Made of 2oz pure silver, this fully engraved and shaped coin displays a tiger’s head, with its mouth open wide, showing off its threatening roar. The antique finish and intricate detail make this one impressive piece! To confirm the coin as legal tender, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll can be found on the obverse.
Each coin is held in an acrylic capsule, moulded to its shape. It is then nestled in black velvet inside a custom-designed, themed box with a large display window. A Certificate of Authenticity is included along with the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 2,000. |
