Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - for example, two ounces of silver (abbreviated as 2 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin is part of a series which marks 100 Years of Warner Bros.
The mint says about it: As part of the celebration here at NZ Mint, we have kickstarted an awesome new 2oz pure silver coin series, Looney Tunes Mashup! It showcases the Looney Tunes dressed as characters from classic Warner Brothers movies throughout the decades.
For the first release in the series, the gang have been swept away to the fantastical Land of Oz! Bugs Bunny appears as Tin Man, Lola Bunny as Dorothy, Sylvester the Cat as The Cowardly Lion and Wile E. Coyote as the Scarecrow, all shown in full colour. This is offset wonderfully by a mirror finish background and the frosted abbreviation "WB". To make it even more impressive, it has been shaped to mimic the Warner Brothers logo. Engraved on the obverse is the Public Seal of Niue, confirming it is legal tender.
Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, each anniversary memento is held inside a special edition custom-designed box. A Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the back, and the unique serial number of the coin in the limited mintage of 1,923 - reflecting the year Warner Bros was founded. |
