Coin | Silver Ounce 2019 Chronos |

Tokelau, known previously as the Tokelau Islands, is a dependent territory of New Zealand in the southern Pacific Ocean. It uses the New Zealand Dollar as circulation currency, but has been issuing a variety of non-circulating coins since 1978, and has also authorised some foreign mints to issue bullion coins under its jurisdiction - including in the internationally popular silver ounce format.
This coin is the fifth issue in the Chronos series of bullion coins which started in 2015, and features changing designs every year. "Chronos" (time) is a reference to the lasting value that precious metals have held during human history. In fact, it is the first legal tender coin in the series, since the earlier issues did not have a denomination and were what the mint calls "medallions" (silver rounds).
The mint says about it: "Panta Rhei" - Everything flows and things come and go. When it comes to value, precious metals have always held a crucial position in the world of finance. Nowadays, a safe haven at the very least, a financial norm in the past. Silver currently holds an especially important position in the financial world and we believe it will continue to do so for a long time. Now and forever. |

Obverse | |
The obverse of the coin shows on the left the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.
In tiny letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).
To the right of the portrait, a small circle with a large numeral 5 in it, the inscription NEW ZEALAND DOLLARS around above, and five stars below. It is at the centre of a pattern of lines forming part of the symbol for infinity.
Around above, the legend of the monarch ELIZABETH II * TOKELAU 2019. Around below, the precious metal content ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER 999.
The rim is decorated like the rim of a chronometer. |

Below, at the position for five o'clock, a large numeral 5 for the value, below which the denomination DOLLARS. |
