Coin | Silver Ounce 2022 Platinum Jubilee |
---|
|
Like many other mints, the Royal Canadian Mint issues coins in precious metals having much higher intrinsic value than their face value. Many of these are in the one ounce (1 oz) silver format which is very popular internationally.
The coins are legal tender but are not intended for circulation. They are targeted at collectors who appreciate these special editions as pieces of art, or for commemorative reasons.
This commemorative one-ounce silver $20 coin celebrates the Platinum Jubilee (70th anniversary) of Queen Elizabeth II's reign.
On the throne since 6 February 1952, at the date when the coin was issued Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, the longest-serving female head of state in history, the oldest living and longest-reigning current monarch, and the oldest and longest-serving incumbent head of state. |
