Silver Five Ounces 2022 Platinum Jubilee, Coin from Tokelau - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: ELIZABETH II TOKELAU 2022 TEN DOLLARS 5oz 999 Ag.

The inscription around the rim also incorporates the precious metal content - five troy ounces of 99.9% silver.

Below the portrait is a representation of the national flag of Tokelau.

The central circle is surrounded by a decorative rosette; the background is decorated with an ornate geometric motif.

At centre, the reverse design displays the Queen's cypher E II R (Elizabeth II Regina - Elizabeth the Second, Queen), surrounding which is the inscription QUEEN ELIZABETH II and the anniversary dates 1952 - 2022.

Surrounding the cypher and text, in a cruciform pattern: above, a representation of Saint Edward's Crown (with a diamond set into it; on the right, the Shield of Ireland featuring a harp; below, the Shield of England featuring three walking lions; and on the left, the Shield of Scotland featuring a rampant lion.

Separating these, in small circle are the plants representing the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom: the rose of England, the leek of Wales, the shamrock of Northern Ireland and the thistle of Scotland.

The decorated edge of the coin shows the inscriptions PLATINUM JUBILEE, SERVICE and DEVOTION.

It seems that the coin was commissioned by Australian coin company Treasures of Oz, and struck by B.H. Mayer in Germany.
