Coin | Silver Ounce 2024 Prehistoric Life - Suchomimus |

|
The Democratic Republic of the Congo normally uses banknotes for circulation, and does not issue coins in the Congolese Franc currency. However, the country has authorised some foreign mints to issue commemorative and bullion coins under its jurisdiction.
Most of them are in standard bullion sizes, including one ounce of silver - such as this coin.
This coin is part of the Prehistoric Life series of premium bullion and collector coins, and features the Suchomimus.
Suchomimus belongs to the Spinosauridae family, a group of carnivorous dinosaurs known for their crocodile-like skulls and long, narrow snouts. The name “Suchomimus” means “crocodile mimic”, referring to the similarity of its skull to that of a crocodile. Compared to other theropods, Suchomimus had some unique features: Its front legs were strong and bore large, hooked claws that were probably used to catch prey, possibly including fish. Suchomimus' build was robust, with a long, flat tail that may have contributed to its stability in the water. Its snout was studded with numerous conical teeth, which were ideal for grabbing and holding slippery prey. Another striking feature of Suchomimus was a low but long sail crest along its back, which consisted of elongated projections of the vertebrae. |
