Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature characters and themes from popular culture.
This coloured rectangular coin is the second release in the Spider-Man Villains series by the New Zealand Mint portraying characters from Marvel comics, and features Green Goblin.
The real name of Green Goblin is Norman Osborn and he is the CEO of Oscorp. Thanks to an experimental serum that increases physical strength and reflexes, but also causes the user to suffer from mental insanity, he becomes the "Green Goblin" in the comic, who is obsessed with the fantasy of leading the New York underworld. Spider-Man, who tries to prevent this, is manipulated by the mad Goblin in a variety of ways and with the help of psychological tricks before Osborn comes to his senses in the final showdown at the Daily Bugle. |
