Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature characters and themes from popular culture.
This coloured rectangular coin is the fifth release in the Spider-Man Villains series by the New Zealand Mint portraying characters from Marvel comics, and features Vulture.
Vulture, also known as Adrian Toomes, is one of Spider-Man's most famous and enduring adversaries in the Marvel comics. He was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and made his first appearance in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #2 in May 1963. Toomes is an ingenious engineer and inventor who has developed a special flying device that gives him superhuman strength and the ability to fly. This device takes the form of a bird-like suit, earning him the name “Vulture”. Adrian Toomes began his criminal career after being cheated and financially ruined by his business partner. Driven by revenge and despair, he turned to crime to make up for his loss and take revenge on society. |
