Gold Half Ounce 2016 Kangaroo, RAM, Coin from Australia - detailed information

The obverse of the coins shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend: ELIZABETH II · AUSTRALIA · 50 DOLLARS ·.

The effigy, legend and face value are in a circle at centre, surrounded by an ornamental border of eucalyptus leaves, eucalyptus flowers and gumnuts (from a Tasmanian Blue Gum).

The reverse of the coin shows at its centre a red kangaroo leaping to the left. In the background, a representation of eucalyptus leaves, a eucalyptus flower and gumnuts (typical examples of Australian vegetation.

Below left, the seven-pointed Star of Federation of Australia. Below right, the date of issue 2016.

Around above, the inscription AUSTRALIA.

Around below, the precious metal content: 1/2 oz .9999 Au (half ounce of 99.99% gold; Au is abbreviated from the Latin "Aurum" and is used internationally on gold bullion coinage).

The rim consists of dots separated by small vertical lines. The face value is on the obverse.

The coin design was approved by the Assistant Minister to the Treasurer in Currency (Royal Australian Mint) Determination 2015 (No. 9) on 2 November 2015.
