Silver Ounce 2022 Platinum Jubilee, Coin from Cayman Islands - detailed information

The obverse of the coin displays the Coat of Arms of the Cayman Islands, which consists of a shield, a crested helm and the motto. Three stars, representing each of the three inhabited Islands (Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac), are set in the lower two-thirds of the shield. The stars rest on wavy bands representing the sea. In the top third of the shield is a lion passant guardant (walking with the further forepaw raised and the body seen from the side), representing Britain. Above the shield is a turtle on a coil of rope. Behind the turtle is a pineapple. The turtle represents the seafaring history; the rope, its traditional thatch-rope industry; and the pineapple, its ties with Jamaica.

The islands’ motto, HE HATH FOUNDED IT UPON THE SEAS is on a ribbon below the shield. This line, a verse from Psalm 24 Verse 2, acknowledges the Christian heritage of the country, as well as its ties to the sea.

The background of the centre is textured with thin lines radiating from the shield. The date of issue 2022 is divided by the Coat of Arms.

In the rim around above, the name of the country: CAYMAN ISLANDS.Around below, the face value ONE DOLLAR.

Around left and around right, the metal content 1 TROY OZ 999 FINE SILVER (one troy ounce of 99.9% silver).

At centre, the reverse shows two of the portraits of Queen Elizabeth II used on the coinage of various Commonwealth nations of which she is joint head of state. On the left, her "second definitive portrait", by Arnold Machin (introduced 1966); the portrait is turned mirror-like to face left, while on coinage it faces right. On the right, the Queen's "fifth definitive portrait" (introduced 2015), below which in small letters the initials of its designer, JC (for Jody Clark.

Below the portraits, in a small oval the inscription 70 YEARS.

Around above, the inscription PLATINUM JUBILEE, below which the Queen's cypher: E II R (for Elizabeth II Regina - Elizabeth the Second, Queen), crowned with the Crown of Saint Edward. Around below, the anniversary dates 1952 - 2022.
