Silver Five Ounces 2020 Universal Gods - Perun, Coin from Niue - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: NIUE ISLAND 10 DOLLARS ELIZABETH II 2020.

On the left, the precious metal content: Ag 999 · 5 oz (five troy ounces of 99.9% silver; Ag is abbreviated from Argentum, the Latin word for silver).

Behind the portrait on the left, the mint mark of the Czech Mint - a crowned monogram of the letters ČM (Česká mincovna).

The rim features decorative ornaments of Greek, Scandinavian, Slavic, Mesoamerican and Egyptian origin. The obverse side is common to the whole cycle of divine coins, and is designed by a team of Czech Mint artists.

The reverse side of the coin presents Slavic god Perun as a noble bearded man. He wears a typical Slavic shirt and holds his dreaded axe in his hand. There is lightning on his right, rain refreshing the harvest on his left and a pregnant woman kneels at his feet. Perun's figure merges with the oak trunk.

Slavic symbols build an important part of the composition of the reverse side. In the crown of the tree there are thunderous signs and also a spinning wheel, which represents the sun; fern flowers (called Perun flowers) which are a symbol of purity of spirit are then placed around the circumference of the coin.

The designer's monogram mh (for Miroslav Hric) is below left. In the exergue, the inscription PERUN.
