Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - including this very large five ounces of silver format (abbreviated as 5 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin is part of a series which marks 100 Years of Warner Bros.
The mint says about it: Regarded as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time is Warner Bros. Blade Runner, and it’s here on our latest Art of the 100th coin! Made of a whopping 5oz pure silver, this impressive memento is inspired by the 1982 dystopian masterpiece.
Harrison Ford stars in this fascinating, dark vision of the near future as a policeman who tracks engineered humans - a Blade Runner. In the year 2019, the police department forces Rick Deckard (Ford) out of retirement to hunt four genetically engineered humans who have come to earth. Designed to do difficult, hazardous work, the manufactured humans are stronger, faster and smarter than non engineered humans. They feel no pain or remorse; they are almost indistinguishable from other humans... and they are killing people. Now Deckard must stop them before they kill again.
The grand coin displays striking coloured artwork which includes the film’s name and the iconic Voight-Kampff test. The entire background is in a shiny mirror-finish, which truly gives the wow-factor and a frosted border completes the design perfectly.
Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, each coin is presented in a special edition display case and outer box that features the WB100 logo. You also get one-of-a-kind collector cards featuring all the classic Warner Brothers films in our Art of the 100th coin series.
