|Coin||Silver Five Ounces 2021 The Witcher - White Wolf|
Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - including this very large five ounces of silver format (abbreviated as 5 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
The White Wolf coin is the first 5oz silver statue shaped coin from the Witcher Book Series, which plans to have 12 statues featuring different characters and scenes (one new issue every year).
Developed by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher follows the character of Geralt of Rivia. Witchers, generally speaking, are beast hunters who are born with special gifts that can be developed into supernatural abilities at a young age. Living on a continent populated by elves and dwarfs now conquered by humans, the story follows Geralt’s adventures through the war-torn Northern Kingdoms.
The obverse of the coin (in other words, the base of the status) shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.Normally, the initials of the designer Ian Rank-Broadley are below the portrait, but they are not displayed here.
On the right, the unique serial number of the coin.
Around above, the legend of the monarch and the date of issue, ELIZABETH II NIUE 2021. Around below left, the face value 10 DOLLARS. Below, the mass of the fine silver in the coin, 5 oz followed around below right by the hallmark AG 925 - 92.5% silver, also known as Sterling Silver. The coin is actually heavier than five ounces, so that the silver content is exactly 5oz; the rest of the composition is 12.5 grams of copper and nickel.
Main character White Wolf appears in the combat position he assumes in Andrzej Sapkowski's books. One of his famous swords, which is decorated with runic script, is in his right hand; the other sword is slung behind his back. He wears armour but no helmet.
The coin also features the amulet of the School of the Wolf, resting on the character's neck.
Dimensions: 47.3 mm wide, 53 mm long and 84.9 mm high.
Finish: 3D shape, antique, unique serial number.
The coin is packed in an elegant, thematic box, together with a certificate of authenticity. The coin comes with a special brush, thanks to which you will be able to keep in perfect condition.
Date of issue: February 2021.
The Witcher coin series is produced (designed and marketed) by the Mint of Gdansk. The 2oz silver coins in the series are actually struck by the Mint of Poland and carry its mint mark; the 1kg coins and the statues however have no mint mark.
