Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - including this very large five ounces of silver format (abbreviated as 5 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin is part of a series which marks 100 Years of Warner Bros.
The mint says about it: Warner Brothers marks its 100th anniversary this year, and as part of our epic celebration here at NZ Mint, we unveil a new coin series, Art of the 100th! It pays tribute to some of the most iconic films from the studio’s history. The series comprises of six 5oz pure silver coins, each with a mintage of only 100 and depicting a different classic film from the 1950’s to the 1990’s. The first release features the 1952 masterpiece, Singin’ in the Rain.
Our Art of the 100th coin series is a wonderful tribute to some of the greatest films ever made and a unique and beautiful way to own a piece of cinema history. It is a great way to celebrate the centennial anniversary and the studio’s significant contribution to the film industry.
Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, this first coin features the film’s iconic title song and dance number, along with the engraving of the film’s title. The black coloured background contrasts beautifully with the frosted details. The obverse has a mirror finish background, which bears the Public Seal of Niue to confirm the coin as legal tender, a frosted engraving of the WB100 logo, and a laser engraving of the coin’s unique serial number. This attention to detail and craftsmanship is truly remarkable, making it a great addition to any collection.
The outer box is anniversary themed and is designed to be both protective and attractive, making it perfect for both storage and display. The display case inside holds the coin and includes unique collector cards based on all the films from our Art of the 100th coin series. On the opposite side of the Singin' in the Rain collector card, you will find a Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique serial number. |
