Silver Two Ounces 2023 Ancient Calendars - Haab' Calendar, Coin from Niue - detailed information

The obverse of the coin features the official Public Seal of Niue.

It has an inner circle of hiapo designs, representing the fonua (land), within which are stylised designs of a tree, representing life and tagata Niue (the people of Niue), surrounded by an outer circle in the form of a traditional Niuean garland of 14 seashells (representing the 14 villages of Niue), and crowned with St Edward's Crown (of the United Kingdom), representing the sovereign as head of state.

Around above between the two circles, the inscription PUBLIC SEAL OF NIUE. Below, a ribbon carries the motto ATUA NIUE TUKULAGI on two lines (meaning "God, Niue Eternally"), below which two crossed katoua (Niue fighting clubs).

Around above, the face value TWO DOLLARS. The date of issue 2023 is around below.

The MW mint mark of the Mint of Poland (m over W), for Mennica Warszawska (Mint of Warsaw), is below the emblem.

The reverse is coloured depicts at its centre a Mayan relief of a seated man with a basket on his back, from which part of a large stone tablet protrudes.

This is surrounded by 18 coloured sectors, each with a Mayan glyph (symbol) of a month and its name transcribed with the Latin alphabet: POP, WOʼ, SIP, SOTZʼ, SEK, XUL, YAXKʼIN, MOL, CHʼEN, YAX, SAKʼ, KEH, MAK, KʼANKʼIN, MUWAN, PAX, KʼAYABʼ, and KUMKʼU. The 19th sector is small and not coloured and is marked WAYEB', for the remaining "unlucky" or "nameless" five days not included in any of the months.
