Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, or are based on the troy ounce - for example, three ounces of silver (abbreviated as 3 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin featuring The Flash is part of an extensive New Zealand Mint series featuring DC Comics characters.
The Mint says about it: One of the most well-known Super Heroes in the DC Universe, The Flash is a master of not just speed, but time itself. Often travelling through different eras and dimensions, this incredible hero has now raced his way onto this 3oz pure silver coin!
As part of our DC Classic Coin Collection, the face of the coin captures one of the most popular incarnations to don the mantle, Barry Allen, in a powerful pose. Other renditions of the hero, Jay Garrick and Wally West are also illustrated behind in a comic montage. Detailed engravings of the hero at full speed and his memorable lightning bolt insignia are shown to the side. As legal tender, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II can be found on the obverse.
In partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, the matching packaging features spectacular artwork of the speedster. The box is lined with black velvet which envelops this special collectible already securely encased in an oversized acrylic capsule. A Certificate of Authenticity is printed at the back, where the coin’s unique number in the 1,000 mintage can also be found. |
