Silver Three Ounces 2022 Lord of the Rings - Mount Doom, Coin from Niue - detailed information

Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, or are based on the troy ounce - for example, three ounces of silver (abbreviated as 3 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).

This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series dedicated to characters and themes from The Lord of the Rings books and films, and features Mount Doom.

The mint says about it:
Made of 3oz pure silver, this coin shows the fiery volcano in Mordor, Mount Doom, from The Lord of the Rings. It is fully engraved and antiqued with added relief for a truly epic design. The large 55mm diameter gives a wide view of this impressive landscape.

To confirm the coin as legal tender, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll is engraved on the obverse. The worldwide mintage is set at just 1,000 coins.

Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, each piece is held in a modern, themed box lined with black velvet. Printed on the back is a Certificate of Authenticity along with the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage. Inside, the specifications confirm it is made with .999 fine silver.
