Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, or are based on the troy ounce - for example, three ounces of silver (abbreviated as 3 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This design is the first in the DC Villains series by the New Zealand Mint, featuring villains from DC comics and movies.
The mint says about the coin: The Caped Crusader’s deadliest enemy, The Joker is the living embodiment of the cruel randomness of fate.
Made from a weighty 3oz of pure silver, the coin shows wicked colourisation of the agent of chaos sporting an evil grin and holding his signature Joker card. The background includes detailed illustrations, capturing many of his feats in DC Comics. It has also been minted in relief with a mirror finish to add extra charm.
As legal tender, the Public Seal of Niue is engraved on the obverse. The worldwide availability is limited to just 1,000.
The outer box is made with high-quality materials and is DC-themed, which is the perfect accompaniment to the special collectible inside. A Certificate of Authenticity and the unique serial number of the coin are also provided. |
