Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, or are based on the troy ounce - for example, three ounces of silver (abbreviated as 3 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
The Jungle Book coin is part of the Disney Cinema Masterpieces series by the New Zealand Mint.
The Mint says about it: Relive Disney’s The Jungle Book with this incredible 3oz pure silver coin! Released in 1967, this animated classic quickly became a success and is now regarded as one of Disney’s most popular films.
This stunning piece displays a coloured image of the adorable Mowgli and Baloo. Engraved along the bottom is a silver film roll with a mirror-finish, featuring a lovely montage of stills from the film. Turn to the obverse for the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll, confirming it as a legal tender coin.
Officially licensed, each coin arrives in a high-quality box, themed with adorable character imagery. Inside, the box is lined with black velvet and the coin sits in an acrylic capsule, protecting it from the ferocious Shere Khan! A Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the mintage of only 2,000 is included on the back. |
