Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous famous movie characters.
This coloured and specially shaped coin is part of New Zealand Mint collection dedicated to characters and themes from the Star Wars series of movies, and is part of the Faces of the Empire series; it features an Clone Trooper (Phase 2) Helmet.
The Mint says about it: The eleventh coin in The Faces of the Empire collection is shaped and coloured to replicate the Phase 2 Clone Troopers helmet. It has been further minted with extra relief to give the coin more depth. To confirm the coin is legal tender, the obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and a Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the box.
Successor to the Phase 1 Clone Trooper armour, Phase 2 was adopted by nearly all Clone Troopers of the Galactic Republic in the final days of the Clone Wars. Manufactured by Kaminoan armour smiths, Phase 2 armour was more advanced than Phase 1 as it could support more specialised equipment.
Officially licensed, each 1oz pure silver coin is safely stored in a Star Wars themed box, which includes a large window for easy display. At the back, you will find the coin's unique number in the mintage of 10,000. Flip open the box to find the specifications. |
